Lithium batteries are used in a wide range of applications. Here is an example of an electric bike also referred to as an E-bike. These bikes are pedaled like a regular bicycle, but also incorporate a small motor that is powered by a lithium ion battery.

The classification for these e bikes is UN3171, Battery-powered vehicle, class 9.
When shipping these types of bicycles are mentioned under IATA special provision A214 stating
" UN 3171 only applies to vehicles powered by wet batteries, sodium batteries, lithium metal batteries or lithium ion batteries and equipment powered by wet batteries or sodium batteries transported with these batteries installed.
For the purpose of this special provision, vehicles are self-propelled apparatus designed to carry one or more persons or goods. Examples of such vehicles are cars, motorcycles, scooters, three- and four-wheeled vehicles or motorcycles, trucks, locomotives, bicycles (pedal cycles with a motor)..."
In terms of technology, e-bikes have witnessed significant advancements in recent years. Battery technology has improved, leading to lighter and more efficient batteries with longer ranges. Integrated systems, Ebikes in India such as LCD displays and smartphone connectivity, provide riders with valuable information about speed, distance, battery life, and more. Moreover, regenerative braking systems have been introduced, which convert the kinetic energy generated during braking into electrical energy, thereby extending the battery life and enhancing overall efficiency.
